Gertrud Künzli is born in Willisau in 1951 and initially completes an apprenticeship as a goldsmith before attending the Werkseminar at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich and studying sculpture at the Alanus Kunsthochschule in Bonn. The artist lives and works in Zug.
Künzli’s artistic practice can mostly be seen in the shape of sculptural pieces in wood, stone and metal. Drawings and etchings also make up part of her oeuvre. Many of her sculptural works are site- and time-specific installations and art-in-architecture projects that explore themes related to nature. Meanwhile, she often works in series, bringing together several works that share a common thematic focus and allow for a variety of perspectives.
