Jonas Baumann studies illustration and animation at the Kunsthochschule in Lucerne up until 2010. He belongs to a generation that spends its early years in both analogue and digital playgrounds. His artistic practice is situated within this tension, encompassing both traditional oil painting and digital media. He consistently pursues the aim of connecting apparent opposites, probes boundaries and explores differences. Among other things, Baumann engages with surfaces, bodily tensions and the balancing of objects to create surrealist sculptures that evoke a sense of both unease and harmony in the viewer. The objects in his paintings and on his screens are open to interpretations of whether their origin lies in the physical or the virtual world. Baumann lives and works in his hometown of Basel.
