Current location
Stadthaus, Gubelstrasse 22, 6301 Zug, 3. OG West, Notariat
Lukas Hoffmann mainly photographs in urban and suburban areas. He has developed a free way of approaching his work which is not tied to a specific theme and focuses on the compositional elements of the individual image instead. He has been pursuing and refining this way of working. Since 2003 he primarily uses a large-format camera. This results in works akin to panel painting: strictly composed, autonomous, and self-contained photographs. The perspectives from which his works emerge do not follow any fixed rules and thus must be reassessed every time. What initially interests him about a subject is the formal quality of objects, their materiality, colour contrasts, and spatial structures. Born in Zug, Hoffmann lives in Berlin and exhibits his work in France, Germany, and Switzerland. He completed his art education at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris (ENSBA) and during an exchange semester at the College of the Arts in Sydney.
