Samuel Haettenschweiler’s artistic work reflects his interest in urban space as a social system. Inspired by walks through the city, he creates drawings, sculptures, installations and performances in which he explores the atmospheres of urban and peripheral spaces. Many of his works are abstract creations, whilst others take the form of collages and assemblages made from lost objects. What they share is a narrative and, at times, humorous character that invites reflection on one’s own surroundings. Born in Zug, he completes his artistic training at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the Berlin University of the Arts. He also completes his Master’s degree in Contemporary Art Practice at the Bern Academy of the Arts (HKB) in 2022. Haettenschweiler lives and works in Zurich; his artistic practice also takes him to Reykjavik and New York.
