Annelies Štrba, who is born in Zug, rises to prominence almost overnight in the 1990s with her photo- and video art. Many of the black-and-white photographs from this period depict the artist’s private life with her children Sonja, Samuel, and Linda, yet they appear strikingly timeless. As early as in the 1970s, she is awarded the Swiss Design Award. Her artistic career takes her on journeys to Silesia, Japan, Great Britain and Paris. From 2002 onwards, Štrba’s work begins to change and increasingly incorporates colour images that depict her grandchildren as anonymous, elf-like creatures. What nevertheless unites Annelies Štrba’s art are the often slightly blurred nature of the images as well as the creation of dream worlds that invite the viewer to poetic contemplation and reflect her diverse, often literary sources of inspiration.
