In her artistic practice, Muriel Stern draws inspiration from the warmth of the south, which she has experienced during her repeated stays in Italy and the south of France. Many of her paintings depict everyday objects and scenes, yet these can be rediscovered through unusual perspectives and framing. This way, Stern captures unique lighting conditions, individual perceptions, personal experiences. She guides the viewer’s gaze in a specific direction through a deliberate choice of colours. Her works often feature contrasting objects and found items that the artist encounters in industrial areas and backyards. Born in Zurich, she has lived and worked in Lucerne since completing her studies in Design & Art at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
