For many years, Cäcilia Ott devotes her artistic practice to the theme of landscape – but not in the traditional sense. For her, landscape encompasses far more than the depiction of a natural scene: Interior spaces, as well as social or political constellations, can also constitute landscapes. What is decisive to her is the relationship between the individual elements of the composition. In her works, Ott seeks a balance between foreground and background, between the visible and the invisible. This gives rise to pictorial spaces in which what is shown points to something larger, and landscape becomes a structure that can be experienced on multiple levels.
