Thomas Egloff, known as ‘Pinto’, is born in Lucerne in 1954. After moving house several times and attending secondary school in Appenzell, he goes on to Zug Cantonal School before completing a preparatory course at the Zurich School of Applied Arts. After graduation, he works at a commodities firm in Zug for 20 years and later finds his way back to art. The diagnosis of his youngest son with Angelman syndrome is a key factor in this decision, which means that Egloff, as a single father, becomes increasingly tied to his home in Zug. Over several years he creates works that are strongly influenced by mathematical interests and reflections, as well as by observations of his immediate surroundings and the movements of the planets and stars. In the work ‘Sonnenwende’ (Solstice) he records the daily sunsets over the course of a year in 366 narrow strips across six canvases. He also captures the view of the Rigi in a series of 451 drawings.
