Current location
Stadthaus, Gubelstrasse 22, 6301 Zug, 2. OG, Immobilien
The photographer Guido Baselgia was trained in Zurich and spends about forty years of his life in Baar and Zug. There he temporarily runs his own studio. He travels all over the world due to various documentary assignments for industrial projects in Europe, Iraq and the USA. The in-depth photographic exploration of the city of Zug as the infrastructure of modern society results him being awarded the Zuger Werkjahr in the 1990s. Afterwards the focus of his work increasingly shifts to landscapes, shaped and marked by the forces of nature. This and the role of photography itself move to the centre of his work, taking him once again on many journeys. His travels lead him back to his place of origin in the Engadin as well as to Finland, Norway, Bolivia and Ecuador. The results are a large number of black-and-white analogue photographs that focus on peripheral spaces, explore light and twilight, and often border on abstraction. Baselgia receives various art awards for his work and exhibits his pieces in national and international solo and group exhibitions. In 2002 his series ‘Hochland’ is chosen as the official representation of contemporary Swiss photographic art at the International Photography Triennial in Tampere, Finland, and is exhibited at the Kunsthalle Erfurt.
